Pearl may be a singer – but Elkie is better!
Classic song and star are synonymous, which is why there was not a seat to be had on Friday.
In fact Elkie's Lytham date had been a sell out show for several months, such is the pullling power of this ageless rock chick.
And not one of the 470 –strong audience will have felt short-changed as Elkie gave a powerhouse performance, supported by a highly talented six-piece band.
The former chart topper who is celebrating 50 years in showbusiness and her 65th birthday next month belied her years as she belted out her timeless hits including Fool If You Think It's Over, Sunshine After the Rain, Don't Cry Out Loud and Lilac Wine, all of which received spontaneous applause.
Energetic Elkie looked and more importantly sounded fantastic, sucking in huge gulps of air before delivering lengthy notes that left the audience in awe.
Her versatility was stunning and she moved with ease from blues to rock to jazz and back again, thumping the air and even raising the microphone stand above her head!
For her much anticipated 1977 hit Pearl's a Singer she delighted the audience by inviting them to join in. Elkie also introduced a couple of songs from her latest album Powerless, further proof that she still has one of the best voices in the business.
She left the stage to a standing ovation.
